Restylane, Restylane-L, Restylane Lift with Lidocaine, Restylane Silk, Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne are all from the same family of hyaluronic acids treating specific areas in the face, with indication for volume enhancement. Restylane is one of the early hyaluronic acid agents that I utilized in my practice, and I found excellent results for my patients. Since they have evolved in the amount of crosslinking and the type of stackability, each of these can be used in different areas of the face to give the best results.
These are both ideal for mid to deep injection into facial tissue for the correction of moderate or severe facial wrinkles. The use of the injection agent for nasolabial folds, as well as in the lips, has also been utilized to great effect over my many years in practice.

This is used for deep implantation into the facial tissue for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. I find its best use is around the peri-orbital region in the area of the high malar, as well as tear trough sulcus. Patients can utilize this for a slight lift in their mid-cheek and improvement around their eyes. I am careful discussing this agent with my patients so that it is not injected too superficially, as the very thin skin of the eyelids can have the patient see this agent through the skin. Therefore, I only inject it deeply in the area just above the bone that is under the muscle area, in order to improve the shape of patients’ eyelids that have lost volume but have prominent fat pads. Because it lasts for about a year without a post-surgery recovery period, this can be a good temporizing maneuver for patients who are considering eyelid surgery. When injected properly, it has very minimal to no bruising and patients are very happy.
This is a comfortable agent for treatment of the wrinkles especially around the mouth and for lip enhancement. It feels thin when first injected and because it does not have a thickened gel-like consistency, is immediately supple in the lips. I use this for patients who have had good experience with Restylane and this agent can be very responsive in rendering beautiful lips.
