How should I prepare for Halo™ laser treatment?

Halo™ Laser Treatment

What is Halo™ Laser Treatment?

Halo™ laser is a groundbreaking skin rejuvenation treatment that merges the strengths of ablative and non-ablative lasers in one session. Ablative lasers resurface the outer layer of skin to address superficial concerns like wrinkles, sun damage, and other signs of aging. Non-ablative lasers are less invasive, warming the deeper layers of tissue to address minor skin issues and enhance collagen production.

Halo™ laser treatments target deep within the skin without damaging the top layer. Patients may receive the results of more intensive treatment with the downtime of a non-ablative laser. Most patients feel comfortable returning to their daily activities within a few days.

Preparing for a Halo™ Laser Treatment

There is no required preparation time for Halo™ laser treatments; however, several methods exist to minimize risks and maximize your results.

Two weeks before your appointment, we at Mentor Plastic Surgery & MedSpa we recommend avoiding exposure to the sun or tanning of any type. There should be no waxing, tweezing, or use of hair-removal depilatories or creams in the area to be treated. If you are prone to cold sores, Dr. Vanek may prescribe anti-viral medication to minimize risk.

One week before your Halo™ laser treatment, please stop using skincare products with active ingredients such as:

  • Benzoyl peroxide
  • Glycolic acid
  • Salicylic acid
  • Retinol
  • Hydroquinone

The active ingredients of these everyday products can alter good results.

Immediately before your appointment, keep your skin clean and free of makeup or lotions.  Clean skin is an essential part of your preparation as it lowers the risk and improves the results of your Halo™ laser treatment.

Benefits of Halo™ Laser Treatments

Halo™ laser treatments reduce skin issues such as spots, discolorations, wrinkles, fine lines, uneven skin tone and texture, and enlarged pores.

The benefits of this treatment include the following:

  • The results of an ablative laser
  • Downtime of a non-ablative laser
  • See initial results in 5-7 days
  • Long-term effects can last years
  • Highly customizable treatment

The laser’s customizable settings enable Dr. Vanek and his team to adapt to your skin type and tone. The Halo™ laser is considered one of the safest treatments for darker skin tones. It is also safe for treating both the face and body. Most treatments take 30-60 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

Luckily, non-invasive treatments with Halo™ can eliminate those unfortunate reminders of joyous times spent enjoying pleasant weather and rejuvenating healthy, glowing skin.

Skin Discolorations

A sign of sun-damaged skin is the spots that can develop from overexposure to harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation. These include:

  • Sunspots
  • Brown spots
  • Freckles
  • Blotches
  • Discolorations
  • Hyperpigmentation

Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Freckles are one of the most common signs of sun damage. Ultraviolet exposure can lead to fine lines, wrinkles, and loose and sagging skin. When combined with the effects of aging, this creates unwanted alterations in your appearance.

Uneven Skin Texture or Tone

The heat from the sun can dry out your skin, leaving your face dull and dehydrated. Unfortunately, your rejuvenating skincare products can only do so much to restore the moisture lost to the sun’s rays. And with a build-up of dead cells and debris causing tone and texture issues, they may not even effectively penetrate your exterior to provide relief.

Enlarged Pores

Sun damage can worsen enlarged pores, which can become an issue as you age. The pores on the face are already bigger than the others all over your body, and the last thing you want to do is make them more noticeable. Prolonged time in the sun can do just that.

Halo Treats All of Your Concerns

The good news is that a single treatment with Halo can address all these concerns. This fantastic, non-invasive laser procedure safely and effectively revitalizes sun-damaged skin. It’s efficient because it employs two laser wavelengths to repair and rejuvenate your skin. One laser targets the outer layer, or epidermis, to diminish pigmentation and restore a vibrant glow. The second laser penetrates the deeper layer, or dermis, to reverse years of damage. This means you can tackle spots, wrinkles, enlarged pores, and a dull, dry, rough exterior without seeking multiple methods to achieve this.

The Procedure

One of our favorite things about treating sun-damaged skin with Halo is that Dr. Vanek can personalize each treatment to provide a customized level of rejuvenation. The session will last 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your goals. To ensure a comfortable experience, alleviating discomfort during and after the procedure, a topical numbing cream can be applied to the skin before the Halo treatment. Halo also has little to no downtime, so reversing years of skin damage from the sun will not take any unnecessary time out of your busy life.
