Renuvion is a cutting-edge treatment that emits radiofrequency (RF) energy and helium plasma to tighten the skin and stimulate the production of new collagen across several areas of the body.

Preparation

Once you have scheduled your treatment, you will need to make a few key preparations. To help you, Dr. Vanek or another member of his team will provide you with a full set of instructions. These may direct you to:

  • Alter Your Medication Intake: Avoid taking any medications or supplements that contain blood-thinning or antiplatelet properties.
  • Avoid Certain Substances: Cease any nicotine use or alcohol consumption in the weeks leading up to your procedure, as they can cause several complications.
  • Prepare Transportation: Ask a trusted friend or relative to drive you home after your procedure, as you will not be able to.
  • Arrange Time Away: Depending on the extent of your treatment, Dr. Vanek may advise you to take some time away from your responsibilities, career, and other commitments.

Procedure

Dr. Vanek performs each Renuvion treatment in his office on an outpatient basis. If a patient wants to treat multiple body areas (which most do!), he and his team will reestablish your desired enhancements in the operating room. Following this, a team member administers a local anesthetic, with or without sedation, to maintain your comfort throughout the experience.

Dr. Vanek will then place several small incisions around your desired treatment areas. He will inject a tumescent solution into the treatment zone, which helps to swell fat cells, minimize bleeding, and numb tissues. After using ultrasound-assisted liposuction to remove unwanted fat, (3,4) he will insert the Renuvion probe through these incisions and activate the device. The probe will emit a combination of RF energy and cold helium gas to create a plasma beam and deliver controlled heat to the surrounding tissues. (5) As the RF energy heats your skin, your body will begin neocollagenesis, which will tighten the skin. Simultaneously, the helium gas will cool the treatment area, allowing you to remain relaxed throughout the process. (5) This real-time temperature control allows for precise body sculpting with safe, consistent results.

Dr. Vanek will continue to apply the helium plasma to your desired treatment areas until he achieves your desired results. He will then carefully remove the probe and close your incisions before dressing the area. You will then briefly rest under the care of our team until you are ready to return home.

Recovery

After Renuvion, it is common to experience some mild bruising or swelling around the treatment areas. These effects are temporary and will subside on their own with time, but you may also manage them using over-the-counter medications. You will also need to wear a compression garment during this time, which will help prevent any additional swelling and preserve your new contours as your tissues settle and heal. (2) If you treat multiple body areas, you will need to rest and take things easy for a few days. You will be able to shower the day after treatment, but you will need to consistently wear your compression garment(s). (3)

After 24 to 48 hours, you will be able to return to most of your daily activities. However, you may need to avoid participating in any strenuous activities for another several days, depending on the extent of your treatment. (3) This is to ensure that you fully recover and do not accidentally strain any areas that may still be healing.
