Conveniently located to serve the areas of Cleveland, OH

Botox (BOTOX® Cosmetic) is an FDA-approved injectable neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles. By reducing muscle activity, Botox softens wrinkles and prevents deeper creases from forming. Common treatment areas include dynamic expression lines around the eyes, mouth, and forehead.

About Botox
Botox is an injectable neuromodulator that works by blocking nerve impulses to temporarily relax targeted facial muscles. The injectable substance, derived from the naturally occurring botulinum toxin, prevents nerve signals from reaching the muscles, thus blocking the contractions that cause dynamic wrinkles. (1) Dynamic wrinkles are expression lines that result from repeated facial movements such as frowning, smiling, or squinting. Common treatment areas include the forehead (to treat glabellar lines and forehead wrinkles), around the eyes (crow’s feet), and the mouth. (2) By relaxing the underlying muscles, Botox not only softens existing expression lines, but also serves as a preventative treatment to slow future lines from forming and deepening over time.
The application of Botox has evolved beyond simply treating fine lines; strategic placement can also subtly sculpt and mold the face. For example, precise injections can lift and shape the eyebrows, giving the eyes a refreshed appearance. (3) It can also slim the jawline by treating masseter muscles. (4) Botox is also now in use in several different medical fields, including assisting in speech impairment treatment, reducing chronic migraines, alleviating TMJ jaw pain, and decreasing nerve activity in sweat glands to effectively treat hyperhidrosis. At Mentor Plastic Surgery & Medspa, we harness Botox’s customizable capabilities to achieve facial balance and rejuvenative results.
Benefits
Botox offers a range of aesthetic benefits that make it one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures globally. With its exceptional ability to create a smoother, more youthful, and naturally healthy appearance, it carries benefits such as:
- Wrinkle Reduction: Precise injections temporarily decrease the visibility of dynamic expression lines and creases, including crow’s feet, smile lines, and forehead wrinkles.
- Preventative Smoothing: By reducing muscle activity, the toxin slows the formation and deepening of future wrinkles, making it a valuable anti-aging tool.
- Facial Sculpting: Strategic injections can subtly lift and contour targeted features.
- Minimal Downtime: As an injectable, Botox is minimally invasive and requires virtually no recovery time, allowing patients to resume their day immediately.
“No one will ever know you’ve had Botox if it’s done right. You’ll just look softer, more approachable, and vibrant.” – Dr. Paul Vanek
Candidates
Potential candidates for Botox are individuals who are in overall good health and desire a nonsurgical solution to achieve a smoother, more rested, and youthful appearance. Botox is particularly effective for those who are seeing the development of dynamic wrinkles in areas like the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes. Some individuals may not be ideal candidates for Botox treatment, including pregnant or breastfeeding women, or people with certain neurological conditions. During your personal consultation, we will determine if Botox will be a safe and effective aesthetic treatment for you.
Personal Consultation
During your personal consultation, Dr. Vanek or Nurse Practitioner Carli Siegel will carefully evaluate your facial anatomy, skin quality, and aesthetic goals. They will also review your medical history to determine if Botox is a safe treatment option. This is your opportunity to ask questions and discuss potential corresponding procedures, if you wish. Based on their thorough evaluation, they will create a personalized treatment plan detailing the amount and location of your Botox injections, as well as aftercare and maintenance protocol.

Preparation
As with many nonsurgical aesthetic treatments, preparation for a Botox injection is relatively straightforward. To help ensure optimal results and minimize the risk of bruising or swelling, we recommend the following simple steps in the days leading up to your appointment:
- Temporarily suspend the use of any blood-thinning medication or supplements.
- Abstain from consuming alcohol or nicotine for 24 hours before and after treatment.
- Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds.
- Refrain from applying any retinoids or other harsh or exfoliating skin treatments to your face.
Our team can also recommend gentle skincare products to use both before and after treatment to support your results.
Procedure
The Botox procedure is quick and efficient in the comfortable, state-of-the-art environment of Mentor Plastic Surgery & Medspa. We will cleanse your skin to start, then apply a topical numbing cream, if requested. Your injector will administer your Botox with precise placement to achieve optimal smoothing or sculpting results. The session typically lasts less than 30 minutes, depending on the size and complexity of the treatment area. Afterward, you are free to immediately return to your regular daily routine.
Recovery
One reason Botox is so popular is its virtually nonexistent downtime. For the first 4-6 hours after injections, we recommend avoiding alcohol, strenuous exercise, and lying down flat. While recovery is minimal, you may experience temporary side effects such as minor swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites. These symptoms are mild and should fade within a day or two. To further minimize any symptoms, we recommend that you avoid direct sunlight, refrain from strenuous activity, and do not apply pressure to your face for 24 hours post-procedure. We will provide you with more aftercare guidelines specific to your treatment plan.
Results
The results of your Botox treatment will begin to appear a couple of days after your appointment. Initial softening of lines is noticeable, but the full, transformative effects of the neuromodulator will become apparent after approximately 10 to 14 days. Many patients continue to see improvements for months, as the relaxation of the muscles gives time for the skin to smooth further. The result is a more rested, refreshed, and youthful appearance. The effects of Botox typically last 3-6 months before facial muscles gradually regain their ability to contract. To ensure lasting results and prevent future wrinkles from forming, we recommend that you schedule maintenance treatments.
Corresponding Procedures
Botox is often part of a comprehensive facial rejuvenation plan. Depending on your aesthetic goals, you may choose to combine your Botox treatments with other procedures for more complete results. You can explore these options during your personal consultation.
- Dermal Fillers: Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane® and Juvéderm® hydrate the skin and restore youthful volume in areas like the lips, cheeks, and undereyes. Collagen-stimulating fillers such as Sculptra® not only add volume but encourage the body to produce more collagen over time for long-lasting results.
- Renuvion: A minimally invasive skin tightening technology that uses a combination of radiofrequency (RF) energy and helium plasma to contract the skin and stimulate long-term collagen production.
- Vivace® RF Microneedling: An innovative skin treatment that combines micro-channels and thermal radiofrequency energy to boost collagen and elastin production for tighter, brighter skin.
Cost of Botox in Cleveland
The cost of your Botox treatment will depend on a variety of factors, including the dose you receive, the complexity and size of the treatment area, the concerns you wish to address, and whether or not you choose to include any corresponding procedures. During your consultation, we will provide you with a comprehensive price quote that reflects the details of your treatment plan.

FAQ
Can I get Botox and dermal filler injections during the same appointment?
Yes, this is a very common practice. If your aesthetic concerns, such as volume loss and dynamic lines, would benefit from both methods, you can receive them safely during the same session for a comprehensive result.
How long do the effects of Botox last?
The effects of Botox typically last between 3 to 6 months. Regular maintenance treatments can prolong your results and continuously prevent new wrinkles from appearing or old wrinkles from worsening.
Why does Botox work better on dynamic wrinkles than filler?
The botulinum toxin in Botox temporarily paralyzes the expressive muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. In contrast, dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid-based products that work by creating volume underneath the skin to fill in deep lines, creases, and hollow areas. They address two fundamentally different causes of facial aging.
